CIG Interpreters in Honduras with the International Coffee Organisation
The International Coffee Organisation
CIG interpreters regularly provide their services to the International Coffee Organisation, either at their headquarters in London or in coffee‑producing countries, such as Honduras in 2025.
Working in pairs in booths
or with a tour‑guide system
When there is insufficient space in the meeting room to install interpretation booths, or when more flexibility and mobility are required, the interpreters can use a tour guide system, which is light and portable, and still provide the same service. The tour guide system is only suitable when the number of delegates is limited. Your CIG consultant interpreter will be happy to talk you through the options best suited to your event.
In simultaneous interpretation, the speaker’s language is simultaneously interpreted into one or more other ‘target’ languages by interpreters using booths, digital technology and headphones; e.g. for conferences/larger meetings.
The natural flow of the speaker is not disturbed and simultaneous interpretation provides an uninterrupted experience for listeners. It is highly demanding. An interpreter must simultaneously understand what is being said, remember and then translate it into the target language - all the while processing what the speaker is saying next. This requires an extremely high degree of concentration as well as professional competence. All our interpreters combine linguistic and technical competence to ensure effective communication across all language barriers.
Organizers of international events can rely on the expertise of our qualified professional simultaneous interpreters to avoid misunderstandings.
Simultaneous interpreting ensures successful communication regardless of different nationalities and cultures involved.
Interpreting speeches of 5 minutes or more
In consecutive mode, the interpreter listens to the speaker, and then interprets what has been said into another language, using specialist note-taking skills for longer segments of speech; e.g. during business negotiations, presentations and training.
The interpreter is normally standing or sitting close to the speaker, often using the same microphone (if there is one). Once the speaker has finished it is the interpreter's turn to speak using the client's own language to interpret precisely what has been said.
Consecutive interpreting requires close listening and analytical skills, good note-taking and an ability to to make the speech sound as if it were being delivered in the client's own language.
Suitable for up to three people
The ‘whispered’ form of simultaneous interpreting requires the interpreter to whisper the target language to the client; e.g. for formal dinners, during political or business negotiations. It is similar to simultaneous interpreting but the interpreter does not use a headset or microphone. Instead the interpreter sits next to the person or persons who require interpretation and whispers the interpretation.
This form of interpreting is much more taxing both for the interpreter and the target audience who must both concentrate closely. It is best suited to situations where only a small number of people require interpretation, ideally no more than two to three.
One of the benefits of whispered interpretation is that it does not require special technology, so this can make it more economical than other modes of interpretation. It also takes less time than consecutive interpretation. Whispered interpretation is only suitable for a very small audience.
Distance interpreting (DI)
Remote simultaneous interpreting (RSI) or distance interpreting is a type of interpreting made possible thanks to modern digital communications technology. It was used extensively during the Covid pandemic, enabling virtual meetings to be held in spite of lockdowns. Since then, it has become established as a convenient way of communicating and working together. It is particularly well suited to short regular meetings, seminars (now called webinars), webcasts, training sessions, discussion panels and presentations.
When a meeting is purely online, both delegates and interpreters are connected remotely. The interpreters service negotiations, events or conversations via a simultaneous interpreting delivery platform (SIDP).
In addition, RSI can also be a useful adjunct to in-person events. A hybrid setting can offer the best of both worlds: interpreters are present at the meeting (working from traditional booths), and any delegates unable to attend physically (because of distance, time or visa issues) are still able to participate fully thanks to the platform.
Only a few platforms support remote simultaneous interpretation. CIG will advise you on the best ways to optimise sound quality in online meetings and, if necessary, organise the required technical support.
